Takata Airbag Recall.

Second-Hand Vehicle Portal.

This page provides information for sellers of Second-Hand Vehicles and parts including independent dealers, auction houses and salvage yards.

If you are a private owner, please refer to our main recall page.

Selling of Vehicles with an Active Recall

You must not sell a vehicle that is under an active recall. You must check the VIN and other recall information for each second-hand vehicle in your possession in order to find out if the vehicle is under active recall or is subject to a future recall. You can determine the recall status using the Recall Status Tool. Any vehicle with an affected airbag MUST have the airbag replaced before the vehicle is sold.

Selling of Vehicles with a Future Recall

You may sell a vehicle that is scheduled for future recall without replacement, but you must ensure that you notify a prospective purchaser of the vehicle, both orally and in writing, prior to the sale of the affected vehicle.

The buyer must be notified that the vehicle has an affected Takata airbag inflator that will require future replacement in accordance with the requirements of the Recall Notice. The nature of this communication will vary depending on whether the vehicle is less or more than six years of age post manufacture. To ensure BMW can contact the new owner when the airbag becomes available, please email a copy of the letter to BMW at recall-shv@bmw.com.au
